Sacraments
Sacraments
There are seven sacraments in the Church: Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist, Reconciliation, Anointing of the Sick, Matrimony, and Holy Orders. The purpose of the sacraments is to make people holy, to build up the body of Christ, and finally, to give worship to God; but being signs, they also have a teaching function.
As part of our Religious Education Program, which is mandated by the Bishops’, students learn about the Sacraments of the Catholic Church. Students who are baptised Catholics also have the opportunity to prepare for the Sacrament of First Reconciliation in Year Three, the Sacrament of First Eucharist in Year Four and the Sacrament of Confirmation in Year Six. These three sacraments may then be received, as part of the St Joseph’s Priory Parish program.
